Multi-faceted singer/songwriter Estani Frizzell, better known as Estani, is a dynamic artist whose musical journey spans genres, from Latin Jazz and Neo Soul to Tejano/Cumbia and beyond. Estani’s latest single, “Mi Suerte Ha Cambiado,” from her latest album “Tu De Mi Te Acordarás”, is a testament to her artistic evolution. Estani is able to convey the sound, soul, and richness of South Texas Conjunto music through the word and song of her grandmother while maintaining a voice authentic to the rich tapestry of the South Texas Sound. The new album blends contemporary elements with a vintage ’60s–’70s feel, honoring the era in which her grandmother originally performed.
Alongside the music, Estani is directing a documentary that explores the roots, rhythms, and relevance of Conjunto music in South Texas, especially the stories of the women who helped shape it. From dance halls to kitchens, from generations past to those emerging now, this film spotlights the pioneers, unsung heroines, and today’s torchbearers of a genre that defines a region and a people. At its heart, the documentary is about preserving tradition while opening space for future voices, distinctively young Latinas, to take the stage.
